Sr. Systems and Controls Engineer

CHEMRES is a global supplier of commodity and engineering resins seeking a Sr. Systems and Controls Engineer in Chesapeake, VA to support continued growth. We manage a dynamic customer base consisting of fortune 500 companies. The Sr. Systems and Controls Engineer will develop process control system applications utilizing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s on production lines, trouble shoot electrical, process and control issues and advise on improvements. The successful candidate will be self-motivated with extensive experience in industrial automation controls, electrical, and mechanical engineering in a manufacturing environment.


Minimum Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitor production and facilities equipment to ensure efficient and safe operations
  • Troubleshoot electrical and controls related issues for equipment and the facilities and identify corrective actions
  • Lead efficient corrective action implementation projects and provide continuous improvement ideas to reduce the chance of reoccurance
  • Troubleshoot and improve PLC code
  • Identify and improve emergency circuit connections between equipment
  • Lead projects for the design or improvement of equipment
  • Communicate with management areas for improvement
  • Assess areas where redundancy is needed to reduce the risk of downtime
  • Lead or assist validation of software and installation qualifications
  • Perform benchtop prototyping and lead testing of equipment
  • Write procedures to ensure proper processes are followed
  • Create/maintain PLC and motor control matrix for PLC program versions and maintenance activities
  • Assist in development of management of preventive maintenance programs
  • Perform every aspect of the job following safety rules and policies

Job Requirements:

  • 10+ years of engineering experience in a similar field
  • Electrical certification preferred
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication, leadership and presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Experience with designing and installation of new equipment
  • Significant experience in the design and troubleshooting of Allen Bradley PLCs and associated equipment
  • Good judgment, diplomacy, organizational and management skills
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently
  • Master’s Degree in an engineering discipline, degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Automation Engineering
