Senior Quality Engineer

CHEMRES is a global supplier of commodity and engineering resins seeking a Senior Quality Engineer in Chesapeake, VA to support continued growth. We manage a dynamic customer base consisting of fortune 500 companies. The Senior Quality Engineer monitors daily quality activities applying and performing engineering duties, skills and techniques to ensure product meets and/or exceeds customer requirements. The Senior Quality Engineer will have significant experience in  lab and production environments and will provide support to production and warehouse operations.  The successful candidate will, be an effective communicator, self-motivated, quick learner with a proven ability to problem solve and a demonstrated ability to lead monitoring of the production and release of products and development of products.


Minimum Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring of production processes, evaluating the data, identifying root-causes, implementing corrective actions, and reporting the results
  • Troubleshooting production and lab equipment issues and implementing corrective actions
  • Identifying areas where improvements could be implemented and managing the change from concept to installation and verification
  • Assisting in performing dispositions on products and managing production records and reports
  • Evaluation of production efficiency and evaluating and implementing improvements
  • Write complex procedures and quality programs
  • Mentor employees
  • Develop products and lead design projects from concept to installation and verification
  • Manage the calibration program including determining proper requirements and ensuring completion
  • Perform lead auditing to ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 standards
  • Providing complex statistical analysis of data using Six Sigma methodologies
  • Leading test method validations and product and process qualification activities
  • Determining proper preventive maintenance activities, setting up the requirements, implementing the procedures, and ensuring the process is followed
  • Assess regulatory requirements and implement proactive programs to ensure compliance
  • Implementation of preventive actions to reduce the risk of product contamination damages
  • Assist production as needed

Job Requirements:

  • Masters or greater in Chemical, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
  • 7+ years of quality engineering in a medical device or similar field
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills are a must
  • Extensive experience in plastics with knowledge of extrusion, injection molding, and compounding
  • Experience with customer and supplier interactions for quality and design and development
  • Good judgement and diplomacy and very strong compute and math skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with presentation and report writing experience
  • Attention to detail – preferred to have worked in an ISO, FDA, and/or cGMP environment
  • Six Sigma experience preferred
  • Independent self-starter with intellectual curiosity
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
